Questions, answered.
What is a CASP licence under MiCA?
A Crypto-Asset Service Provider authorisation issued by a national EU regulator under MiCA, passportable across all 27 EU member states on a notification basis.
Which EU country is fastest?
File quality moves the timeline more than the country does. On a complete, well-prepared file, Lithuania typically runs three to six months and Estonia four to six.
What capital do I need?
MiCA sets CASP initial capital at €50,000–€150,000 depending on the services (exchange, custody, transfer, advice).
Is VASP the same as CASP?
VASP is the pre-MiCA / non-EU term; in the EU it has been replaced by CASP under MiCA. Offshore jurisdictions still use VASP registration.
Do you handle banking?
Yes. Crypto-friendly banking and fiat rails take longest to arrange, so we start on them while the licence application is still in review.
Crypto, VASP & CASP licences on one map.
A crypto licence goes by different names depending on where you get it. In the EU, the MiCA regulation replaced national registrations with a single CASP (Crypto-Asset Service Provider) authorisation that passports across all 27 member states, so one licence covers the whole single market, at €50,000–€150,000 capital by service class. Outside the EU, the older term VASP (Virtual Asset Service Provider) still applies, under each jurisdiction's own rules.
So the first question is simply whether you need the EU market. If you do, a Lithuania or Estonia CASP is the fast route, Bulgaria the one with low state fees, and Malta, Ireland or Cyprus the reputation plays. If you're global, a UAE (VARA), Hong Kong, Singapore or offshore VASP fits better. New to the terms? Start with our VASP, CASP & MiCA guide.
