BVI Crypto Licence
The blue-chip offshore crypto registration. The British Virgin Islands — the world's most-used offshore corporate domicile — regulates crypto through the FSC under the VASP Act 2022. There's no minimum capital (you evidence 6–12 months' runway instead), 0% corporate tax, and a globally recognised name. It's a substantive file, not a rubber stamp, but the credibility is real. Vantegris runs the FSC application and the substance.
overview
Why BVI.
The British Virgin Islands is the most widely used offshore corporate jurisdiction in the world, and its crypto regime carries that pedigree. Under the Virtual Assets Service Providers Act 2022 (effective 1 February 2023), any business providing virtual-asset services as a profession to third parties from or in the BVI must register with the Financial Services Commission (FSC). Three categories cover the market: a general VASP registration (wallets, payments, DeFi and blockchain infrastructure), custody, and exchange.
The commercial appeal is distinctive. There is no minimum capital requirement — instead, the FSC requires evidence that the company can cover six to twelve months of operating expenses — and BVI entities pay 0% corporate tax. But this is a substantive registration, not a formality: the FSC expects a detailed business plan, AML/KYC policies, a risk-assessment framework, fit-and-proper evidence for directors and beneficial owners, and genuine operational infrastructure, and it requires two directors, an Anti-Money Laundering Officer and an auditor. Official application fees run USD 5,000–15,000 (with custody and exchange at the top), and total first-year cost typically lands in the USD 22,000–70,000+ range with ongoing maintenance. The statutory window is four to six months, though realistic timelines run eight to fourteen months depending on the FSC's caseload. It does not passport into the EU, but for a credible, tax-neutral, globally recognised offshore base, the BVI is hard to beat. We build the file to FSC standard.

Reach & restrictions.
A BVI VASP registration supports global business but does not passport into the EU — to serve EU users you need an EU CASP licence. You still follow local rules in each market and geo-block the United States, sanctioned and FATF-listed territories.
Operators must use GEO-IP blocking for restricted countries and any FATF-blacklisted nation. Non-compliance can lead to licence suspension or revocation.
FAQ
Does the BVI regulate crypto?
Yes. Under the Virtual Assets Service Providers Act 2022 (effective 1 February 2023), any business providing virtual-asset services as a profession from or in the BVI must register with the Financial Services Commission. Three categories cover the market: general VASP, custody and exchange.
How much capital do I need?
There is no minimum capital requirement. Instead, the FSC requires evidence that the company can cover six to twelve months of operating expenses. BVI entities also benefit from 0% corporate tax.
What does it cost overall?
Official application fees are USD 5,000–15,000 (custody and exchange at USD 15,000). Total first-year cost typically lands in the USD 22,000–70,000+ range once directors, the AMLO, an auditor and ongoing maintenance (from ~$1,500/month) are added.
How long does it take?
The statutory window is four to six months, but realistic timelines run eight to fourteen months depending on the completeness of your application and the FSC's caseload.
Does a BVI VASP work in the EU?
No. It supports global business but does not passport into the EU. To serve EU users you would need an EU CASP licence — the two are often paired.
