Slovakia Crypto Licence

A quick, no-nonsense route to an EU crypto licence. The National Bank of Slovakia reviews a complete CASP file in roughly three to five months — often cited as more straightforward than its larger neighbours — for the same full MiCA authorisation and EU-wide passporting, at €50,000–€150,000 capital by class. A pragmatic eurozone base. Vantegris runs the NBS file, the AML and DORA build, and the banking.

overview

Why Slovakia.

Slovakia has become a favoured practical choice for a MiCA CASP licence, often described as more straightforward to work through than its larger Central-European neighbours. The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) is the sole competent authority for Crypto-Asset Service Provider authorisation, and its review of a complete file typically runs three to five months — the statutory process allowing 25 working days for a completeness check and 40 working days for the decision, with a possible extension.

Slovakia moved early: the country set its transition cutoff at 30 December 2025, so the old VASP trade licence no longer applies and the market now operates on a full, live MiCA basis. What you get is a genuine EU licence — passportable across all 27 member states on a notification basis — from a eurozone jurisdiction with a central-bank regulator. The requirements are standard MiCA: a Slovak company with real substance, qualified management, an AML officer, initial capital of €50,000 to €150,000 by class, and a DORA-compliant ICT programme. For teams that value a quicker, cleaner path to authorisation inside the euro area, Slovakia is a strong fit.

FAQ

How long does a Slovak crypto licence take?

Typically three to five months on a complete file. The National Bank of Slovakia allows 25 working days for a completeness check and 40 working days for the decision once the file is complete, with a possible extension.

How much capital do I need?

The MiCA tiers apply: €50,000 (Class 1), €125,000 (Class 2 — custody/exchange) and €150,000 (Class 3 — operating a trading platform). Being in the eurozone keeps capital and banking simple.

Is the old Slovak VASP trade licence still valid?

No. Slovakia set an early transition cutoff of 30 December 2025, after which the legacy VASP trade licence no longer applies. CASP authorisation from the NBS (or a passported EU CASP) is now the entry route.

Does a Slovak CASP work across the EU?

Yes. It is a full MiCA authorisation and passports into all 27 member states on a notification basis — you can serve the whole EU from Slovakia.

Slovakia or the Czech Republic?

Both are strong Central-European MiCA hubs with identical capital tiers and full passporting. Slovakia is a eurozone jurisdiction often cited as the quicker, more straightforward path; the Czech Republic offers central-bank brand and heavy application momentum. We'll match the choice to your services, banking and timeline.
